RE: Slide out lubrication

When we got ours it was showing early signs of rust/corrosion. I sprayed what I could get to with a product called LPS 3, which is a wax base coating. I have used that on a lot of items over the years with great success. Last time I looked the rust/corrosion was not getting any worse. So far I have not figured out what brand of slide ours has.

Slide out lubrication

We have a 2008 Rockwood 8314SS. I have looked in the manual and all it talks about is a hydraulic slide. Ours is electric. It seems to be running slower than when new. I would like to lubricate it but not sure how to get to the mechanical system nor what to lubricate and with what. I have gone to the Lippert WEB Site, however did not find a unit that looked like what I have. Any suggestions?

RE: Vacuum Cleaner???

We have a collection of small upright vacuums that we have tried and always go back to the old hand held dirt devil that works great. I have to get down on the floor to use it. You can also put a hose in the end and dust and get into very small places. Only problem so far is getting bags for it as not many stores have them.

RE: Black Tank Flush Winterizing?

Blow it out with very little pressure. I use about 10 PSI although it only takes about 5 PSI to blow out the water. We live in a mild winter climate and I am thinking about just blowing out the lines and not putting antifreeze in this winter in case we decide to go somewhere.

RE: Who has a new (2009) Rockwood 8317ss?

Turn off the signal amplifier when using cable connection. That worked for us.
Occasionally we were at a park that had sorry cable service where nothing worked.

RE: Safe Trailer length

We have always made it the sites at 34’; however, we have had a couple of places that the front to back level has been less than desirable. At a couple of places there was no room for the TV. I would look for a TT that fit your desires and you are comfortable with that is within the weight limits of your TV.

RE: Changing Gears

It will be a measured improvement going from 3.73 to 4.10. Noticable but not big. Downshifting will be reduced and holding lockup will increase.
I am just looking for about a 300-RPM increase so I can slow to 55 and stay in high with the converter locked up. Lots of the roads we travel have a 55 MPH speed limit that other drivers maintain which cause me to also.
I just heard about a four-wheel drive specialty shop in the area that I am going to talk to.

Changing Gears

I have a 2005 Escalade EXT that I tow the TT with. It does great and will stay in high with the torque converter locked when on flat highway if I keep the speed above 60MPH. I am thinking of having the 3.73 gears changed to 4.10 gears. I am hoping that the transmission will perform better. I haven’t researched this yet because I am not sure whom to ask. The truck is all wheel drive that is electronically controlled and I do not want to loose that feature. Need someone that is familiar with the system to advise and don’t think the dealer is the right one.

RE: Check list for extended trip

We had a person to watch our house and forward mail when we ask him. He would run water in the sinks and flush the commodes once a week. He sorted the junk mail out. All our utility bills were drafted automatically from the bank. Because we live in the country I was able to cancel the garbage collection. I turned off the water heater. Set A/C at 85 degrees. Lawn was contracted. I pre paid some items like XM radio and Internet service for a year. The only invoice I had come in was for car insurance and I handled it on line and got the cards as an e-mail attachment. During the trip I ended up buying an Air Card because the Wi-FI use was very iffy. We were gone for 24 weeks.

RE: New toy for washing Camper

I just went online to order one and found that Amazon.com is less expensive than Wal-Mart after shipping and taxes are calculated. Scheduled delivery is three business days.

RE: Front or rear bed?

Ours is rear living with front bedroom and we love it. Kitchen is right over the axels. Several places we were parked we had fantastic views out the back. Very few places had good views out the front, in fact I can’t remember one, and with most of the pull through sites it will not matter.

RE: You know when you have been gone from home too long when...

We feel like we are wasting a lot of water in the shower. Can’t find the foot lever to flush. Waiting for the motion light to come on when getting out of bed in the middle of the night. Opening the door to the back yard to let the dog out without a leash and not carrying a little blue bag.

RE: Water in the Campgrounds

We have bought gallon jugs of water for coffee when the local water did not taste good. Other than that we use the CG water. Our TT has a built in filter and I also put a small in line filter one on the hose. Hose filter is probably over kill.

RE: Oops! Bad for Leather!

We had leather matched for house furniture. It took awhile but we finally got a sample that matched and had the new furniture made. Keep the leather covers get it repaired and enjoy it. Never understood covering the seats to preserve for the next owner.

I had State Farm years ago for everything. House was burglarized while on vacation. Took 11 months and a letter from an attorney to settle. Good luck.

RE: End of another season.....most memorable experience.....

We were gone 24 weeks and had a fantastic time. Visited 9 of the 11 Grandkids, three cousins, Mom, it was her 90th birthday, & Sister. Outer Banks & Key West were great. Traverse City, MI area was a really beautiful area. SS Badger across Lake MI was neat to do and was less expensive than driving around the lake. Eastern TN was great-could live there without a problem. MO was a place I could have stayed longer. Can’t really pick a favorite, as there were too many great places. Can’t wait to go west next summer.

RE: Gray water black water

We stayed at a campground that came around and pumped the tanks with a honey wagon. The guy opened both valves at the same time. The next time I dumped there was some dark water in the gray. I filled the tub and let it flush out the gray tank a couple of times and now I just get gray water from the gray tank. Based on that I would never open both valves at the same time.

Door Hits Frame

Our rear door hits the frame with the slide in, sometimes quite hard. With the slide out it is fine. Yesterday we finished unloading it to take in for some work and the door worked with the slide in and did not hit. It was not consistent before we unloaded-seems to depend on where we were parked. Is the frame flexing that much?
